Why do I loose my settings each time I download and install a new version of SquawkWin ?

The new SquawkWin installer has an option that let you just update the DLL, just click the button Update existing to use it, unless you need to update more files, in this case all you need to do is to save your SquawkWin.INI file and restore it after having installed the latest files.

Stay Tuned on this website as there are frequently new versions fixing bugs or adding new features.

Does SquawkWin run with FS X or X-Plane ?

Yes, SquawkWin is totally compatible with FS2002, FS2004 and FSX and now (since version 2.2.9) with X-Plane.

Why don't you use uPnP to open TCP ports ?  Some told you that uPnP is the solution ? Take a look here http://www.grc.com/UnPnP/UnPnP.htm
Well upnp is a big bluff and before getting anything working with upnp you must :

  1. Ensure to open some TCP ports to allow upnp working (TCP 5000 and UDP 1900) !!! So if you know how to do so, then it is obvious that you can open the ports for flight simulation, no ?
  2. Enable upnp on your Windows
  3. Enable upnp on your router/firewall ... Generally if you don't know how to open a port on your, then you surely don't know how to upnp ...

How to share the same skies for one hour or for one event between two networks ?

Imagine your network is called FLYNET (and assume your website is www.flynet.com) and you want to create an event and invite all the members of another network called HIGHSKIES (which website is www.highskies.com).To join FLYNET, the owner of HIGHSKIES should setup his dafnode like this :


To invite HIGHSKIES, the owner of FLYNET create a member account for the HIGHSKIES node server then you must edit his account, fill his GUID and check "Node Server" checkbox like this :

That's ALL !

And then all the online members of FLYNET will see all the online members of HIGHSKIES exactly like if they were connected on the same server !!!

How to share the same flying space for several other networks ?

Easy ! FLYNET should accept the other networks like for HIGHSKIES and the other networks should proceed like HIGHSKIES ... This way you can imagine a HUGE airshow !!!

How to use DAFSIM tools in a LAN ?

Easy ! Instead of typing www.mywebsite.com to connect, just type something like 192.168.0.3:55000 or the local IP you want ...

How to run the DAFNODE SERVER on an external remote Windows machine ?

Easy ! Upload it exactly like in your home PC, upload your Members.daf file (Database is there), then to make automatically run at Machine Startup, just use in the command line these two commands separated by a space, Here is an example :

C:\anyfolder\DafNode.exe DELAY_TO_CONNECT_AT_STARTUP=3 PASSWORD_TO_WEBSITE=yourpassword

or if you are using a DCS

C:\anyfolder\DCS.exe DELAY_TO_CONNECT_AT_STARTUP=3 PASSWORD_TO_WEBSITE=yourpassword


This will automatically run the Dynamic DNS using your password and Connect Dafnode server after 3 seconds ...If you want to remotely manage your server then take a look to the full set of PHP code I've designed for that purpose.

What if the website goes down or the server is disconnected ?

A new version should be available soon and allow to try several websites and have several backup dafnode servers.
Actually when your dafnode server is disconnected, you stay connected with all your neighbours, and keep flying normally with them, then when the server is available again, your SW and SR will reconnect automatically without disturbing your flight.
Test it your self !

How to display ILS beam and descent view in SquawkRadar ?

Take a look to the file SR.SRT (it is a simple text file in the same folder than SquawkRadar.exe) and enrich it as you want.

How to display airport details with long names in SquawkRadar ?

I have created a new section called [GEO2], you can understand it by reading the HELP in SR (Press F1 in SR to get HELP)

In SquawkRadar what is the value displayed front of the pilot's callsign ?

That's the vertical speed in hundred feet / min. So if you read AFR1002 +18 then this guy is climbing at 1800 ft/min and if you read 7T-VDW -5 then ... I am descending at 500 ft / min with my old Beech BE19 ...

In SquawkRadar how can I get a text copy of the METAR ?

In the "Remote control" window of SR, click the "Msg" button ... then just click in the METAR tape (the horizontal scrolling text) ... then you can copy / paste the text METAR by a standard CTRL-C / CTRL-V

In SquawkRadar how can I get multiple METARS ?

You have two ways to get multiple METARS in SquawkRadar:

  1. First, you may type a .WX command followed by the ICAO codes of the airports (Weather stations) in the Transmission Window
    Here is an example:
  1. Second way to get multiple METARS in SquawkRadar:
    You may directly open the multiple METARS window and then type a list of ICAO codes (without .WX)

 

In SquawkWin can I use an external TCAS or Radar based on FSUIPC ?

Yes, just install FSUIPC from Mr Pete Dowson and you'll get fed with all the traffic around you.

In SquawkWin how can I read the ATIS of an ATC without switching to his frequency ?

Just display the ATC window list (Press CTRL+TAB) and then you have two choices:

  1. Switch to this ATC by double clicking on him
  2. Read his ATIS without switching to him, just press and maintain SHIFT when you double click on him...

In SquawkWin or SquawkRadar, how can I kick out a "disturbing" member ?

This may be done for a player that does not respond (not front of his PC) or a player that disturbs others.

  1. In the text field where you usually exchange messages or request weather using .WX commands, enter the following :
    !TARGETCALLSIGN! always type a free text to explain the reason of kicking this callsign
  2. No spaces between the target callsign and !
  3. The player who's callsign is TARGETCALLSIGN will be kicked out ONLY if you have been licensed to kick by the DAFNODE

  4. The target will receive a message saying why he has been kicked
  5. And a log of this action is written in a file (same folder than dafnode) called KickedOut_log.txt to let the network owner review the actions.
  6. The player is kicked out for 1 hour and can not reconnect until that delay have run out

How can I make SquawkWin to autodetect my plane ?

Here are some explanations on how to make Squawkwin auto-detect your aircraft or how to build compatibles Mulitplayer Plane Packages :

All you have to do is to respect a given notation for the plane names in the aircraft.cfg file, in section [fltsim.x], entry title like this :

XXXX YYYY ZZZ where :

here is an exmaple :

This way, Squawkwin will manage very well your packages.

CAUTION : A frequent error is to use something that (looks like but) is not an official ICAO code like for example A330 this is not a valid ICAO, use instead A332...

Why does the installer not find the path to FS2004 when I try to install SquawkWin ?

This happen often when you have installed FSX after FS9.
This is a well known bug in FSX and you can fix it by using this patch :

How can I use mySQL with the Dafnode database ?

You have ALL the PHP tools to link with your dafnode and deal with your mySQL (or any) database here.

 

How to activate the "anti-cheaters" mode ( pilots not in cockpit for a long time ) ?

In the server, go to "General Setup" and check the "Enable anticheating" checkbox, like this :

Then, when a pilot is connected, and AIRBORNE, a countdown starts and each 25 minutes, a request comes from the server and the "In Cockpit" area will blink. The pilot has 5 minutes to click on it to confirm that he is IN THE COCKPIT otherwise he is will be disconnected.
Thus the Total time a pilot can leave the cockpit is 30 minutes
Here is an example :

You may click the "In Cockpit" button at ANY time to reset the timer. This allows you to have (25 + 5) minutes of "away" time after you click it.

How can I fix the position offset with other simulators ?

If you are using a flight simulator "A" and the other pilots around you are using "B" (for example you are in FSX and the others in X-Plane) then you will notice a position offset due to the sceneries that are slightly different in each simulator.

One useful tool to fix temporary this is the "Auto-adjust offset" button.
